The Paredes Band Program was started in January 2000. Michele Lang and Richard Davis started the program with 110 students the first year, and have steadily built the program up to its current enrollment of 280 members. The program consists of 3 seventh and eighth grade concert groups (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band), six sections of beginning band, and the Paredes Jazz Band.
The program has demonstrated a high level of musicianship since opening in January 2000 and continues its strive for excellence. The program began receiving awards in 2002 when the Paredes Wind Ensemble earned a first division superior rating on stage at the UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest. At the 2004 UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest, the Symphonic Band received a first division superior rating on stage, and the Wind Ensemble received a first division superior rating from all six judges in both concert and sight-reading.
Both bands continue to do well earning superior and excellent UIL ratings in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, all three Paredes Bands earned Superior ratings at the Blue Bonnet Music Festival in San Antonio with the Wind Ensemble earning an award for outstanding ensemble. In 2006, all three bands earned Superior and Excellent ratings at the Peak Music Festival in Denton.
In February of 2005, the Paredes Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the Star Day Celebration which was held in the foyer of the State Capitol.
